Who should play the lead in the movie version of Paperback Comedian?

You’ve probably thought about casting the perfect person for your favorite book, maybe even for something you’ve written. Yeah, it’s a bit daunting.
THE BEST at their craft have a special presence, a gravity. We admire them instinctually. We choose to orbit their body [of work] without conscious thought. We like them, no, we love them despite their flaws … maybe because of their flaws.
And of course, Paperback Comedian is flawed. Think about it. An unqualified scientist realizes a lifelong dream by cloning a writer. A writer? Not believable. No one in their right mind––
Wait. The clone would prefer to be a comedian. Okay, that’s much better. We all could use a good laugh about now.
But back to the question at hand: who would best portray the nuances, the complexity of the character? (I’m hoping that Samuel L. Jackson will accept the role. Or maybe Adam Sandler.)
Now’s the time for you to swoop in and be the hero. You’ve read the book. Who would you pick?
Paperback Comedian: A Novella Trilogy
