Critique Corral & Editing Inn

HEY THERE, writer.  I take it you’re in search of an affordable editing service.  I’m sure it’s been a long, treacherous journey rife with pickpockets and purse-snatchers.  Well come on in, weary traveler, and rest easy. Anybody who tries to rob you here will stare down the long barrel of WB’s shotgun if my knife work doesn’t scare ‘em away first.

At Tory Hunter Books, we don’t bleed you dry, and we don’t push you into filling your rucksack with more than what you need.  We’re here to help shape your book to your vision, not to build an empire on the backs of aspiring authors.

So let’s take a look at those tattered pages and see what we can do for them. This here’s what we have to offer you–no tricks, no gimmicks, no nonsense.

QUERY LETTER/TWITTER PITCH CRITIQUE ($20)

Ah, yes, the ol’ query letter.  This is how we built the foundation of this roadside inn.  I’ve personally critiqued well over a hundred query letters in the past several months.  Some folks just need a little line-by-line editing, some need a substantial revision, and some require a template to use so they can fashion a new query altogether.

If this is what you’re after, you can paste your query in the contact form below and receive a critique within 72 hours.

If you’re looking for a critique of your Twitter pitches, we’ll do up to three (same book) for $20, and it’ll also come with an example pitch we write for you ourselves.

SYNOPSIS EDIT ($80)

Lord have mercy on you if you’re in the process of writing your synopsis. That’s one muddy hill to climb right there, so let us give you a boost. We’ll hit it from both sides: a critique discussing how we can shape it up and a good ol’ copy edit using track changes for you to accept or reject.  By the time we’re finished, that synopsis of yours will be a work of art worthy of hanging above the mantle.

MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUE ($7 per 1,000 words)

Now we’re talkin’.  As soon as I laid eyes on those muddy boots, I knew you were in the mining business.  Those hands look like they’ve been busting through quartz to find rich veins of gold.

Manuscript critiques are the most valuable tool a writer can wield, and they’re my personal favorite.  I love reading books just like young lads love young ladies. Now let me prove it to you. Slap that manuscript down on the table, and I’ll come back at you with a comprehensive editorial letter that not only discusses the book’s overall issues but also presents chapter-by-chapter commentary, so you’ll know what the reader experiences as they read your story.  Pair this with a copy edit and you’ll be set to continue your agent hunt, armed and ready and unstoppable.

COPY EDIT ($9 per 1,000 words)

This is where we grease the wheels and replace broken spokes.  If your manuscript is rickety and squeaky, we’ll smooth out transitions, offer better word choices, restructure awkward sentences, note inconsistencies, offer commentary on slow or confusing passages–you name it.  You want your reader to have a gentle, enjoyable ride, so we’ll make sure your book can handle the ruts and potholes ahead.

PROOFREAD ($7 per 1,000 words)

Well look at you all dressed up and shiny.  You look like you’re about ready to take the stage, but you just need us to straighten your collar and shine your shoes and give you a shave.  We can comb through that manuscript and find the hidden spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, no problem. We know how it is. You spend all that time getting ready only to discover the mirror has fogged over, and now you can’t locate the subtleties.  Don’t worry. We’ve got eyes like a hawk around here.

Now before you go picking out your wares, let me show you the deal you’ll get if you combine a couple of services.

Just let us know what you’re after in the contact form. We’ll talk with you and quote you a price.

TESTIMONIALS

“Think of Tory Hunter as the Manuscript Whisperer. Bring her your tangled, troubled prose and she’ll cure what ails it. Or come to her for an editorial overview and she’ll analyze your work with honesty, intelligence, and compassion. I was pleased beyond all expectation with the work she did for me. Worth every penny!” — J.J. Blacklocke

“Working with Tory on my historical adventure novel has been both inspiring and enlightening. The comprehensive editorial assessment she performed identified character development issues, plot weaknesses, and continuity errors I otherwise would have missed. She does good work at a fair price.”—Benjamin J. Gohs
